Futures

« Back to Glossary Index

The futures market is a financial marketplace where traders buy and sell futures contracts. These contracts obligate the buyer to purchase, and the seller to sell, a specific asset at a predetermined price and date in the future.

The assets can range from commodities like oil and gold to financial instruments like currencies and stock indices. The market is used for both hedging against price risk and speculative trading.
