To be “on the sidelines” means that an investor or trader is not actively participating in the market by buying or selling assets. Instead, they are waiting and observing without making any significant investment moves.

Being on the sidelines can be a result of various reasons including uncertainty, risk aversion or analysis or research.

If a trader is “on the sidelines” they will likely hold a “Cash” position.
